But there is value to owning a new watch, new 111 would be sandwich, it is very nice but as others will tell you, the painted just pops. I picked up a new 000, to get that new & painted look, also the ETA and solid caseback that i am so fond of.
I don't think there is a substitute for a PAM 111. Perhaps the best model they ever produced in the classic, old school manner. The company wants everyone to buy one of their models with their in-house movements, so finding a 111 may be difficult. I’m going to go against everyone else and suggest you avoid the 111. I had one for several months and it turned me off the brand for several years. For your first Panerai, I suggest jumping in with the 372. Another vote for the PAM 111. The simplicity of the dial and the DNA of the brand make this a great choice. Easy mvmt to service as well if you go for the ETA. 111: Pros:-Classic Panerai design.-Sandwich dial. I really like those.-Hand-winding means more interaction with the watch. You can also just wind it up whenever you suspect it might be running out of power soon. Cons:-Kind of expensive for a Unitas powered watch. (then again it's relatively inexpensive for a PAM) 90: Pros:-Power reserve meter.
